SAMSUNG AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DIRECTIONS 2008

AMERICAN LEGION

1 at $1,000 and 5 at $500
All MGS participants are eligible to apply for the $1,000 Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship Fund.  MGS participants who are current members of or a descendant of a member of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion, are unmarried, under the age of 21, & a resident of Missouri are eligible for the $500 Joseph J. UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI

Unlimited at $1,500

CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY

Unlimited at ½ tuition
These awards are available to all MGS participants admitted to CMU.  The student must meet or exceed CMU’s basic academic admission standards.  The student may not stack a participatory award on top of the ½ tuition scholarship.  Please fill out the admissions application & indicate that you were a MGS participant.  The award is renewable if a 2.5 GPA is maintained.  Contact Linda Mackey, Director of Financial Assistance, 411 Central Methodist Square, Fayette, MO 65248 or 660-248-6245.

COLUMBIA COLLEGE

Leadership Award
This award is based on demonstration of leadership in high school &/or community activities.  Priority is given to those students who participate in MGS.  The Leadership Award is renewable with participation leadership development activities, including involvement in a minimum of two campus organizations.  Contact Regina Morin, Director of Admissions 1001 Rogers Street, Columbia MO 65216 or 1-800-231-2391.

CROWDER COLLEGE

Unlimited at $600 each

MGS citizens who rank in the top 15% of their class or score at least 25 on their ACT qualify for this award.  The scholarship is renewable for three semesters if you remain a full-time student with at least a 3.0 GPA.  Contact Karen Pratt, Financial Aid Office, 601 LaClede Neosho MO 64850 or 417-455-5678.

DRURY UNIVERSITY

Unlimited at $1,000 each

An admitted student to Drury, who attended MGS, is eligible for this renewable award if they submit an essay based on their experience at MGS.  The deadline is February 1st.  Contact Debbie Roetto, Scholarship Director, Drury University, 900 N Benton Ave Springfield MO 65802 or 1-800-922-2274.

LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY

10 at $5,000 each and a $1,800 Work & Learn award

LINN STATE TECHNICAL COLLEGE

1 AT $1,200

MISSOURI SOUTHERN STATE COLLEGE

10 at $800 each
MGS participants who score a 26 or higher on the ACT will receive this Regents Scholarship.  This is a renewable award as long as a 2.5 GPA is earned the first semester and a 3.0 GPA is maintained thereafter for full-time students.  This award must be used within one year after graduation and will not cover any deposit, rental or student activity fees.  Contact James E Gilbert, Financial Aid Administrator, 3950 E Newman Rd Joplin MO 64801-1595 or 417-625-9325.

 

MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY

5 at $1,000 each
MGS participants who have both a solid academic record & a strong record of leadership are eligible.  This is a non-renewable award & can be combined with other Missouri State awards and scholarships with the exception of the Presidential, Governors, and Multicultural Leadership Scholarship. Students must apply for admission, submit the general scholarship application, & provide verification of MGS attendance to the Office of Student Financial Aid by March 1st of their senior year. MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE

Unlimited at $5,000 each and $1,860 Work Grant
These scholarships provide free room and board for four years to each recipient, who also becomes eligible for $1,860 in work grants.  You must have been a 2006 Girls State Citizen Contact Jacqueline Burton, Director of Admissions, MVC Marshall MO 65340 or 660-831-4157.

NORTH CENTRAL MISSOURI COLLEGE

2 at $1,000 each
North Central Missouri College will award two scholarships to high school seniors who attended Missouri Girls State, provided they have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or graduate in the top 20% of their high school class.  The award is for one year at $500 per semester.  Contact:  John T. NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY

10 at $500 each
Scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen who have attended MGS.  Selection will be based on leadership & academic merit.  Applicants must be admitted to the University & complete the general scholarship application & send proof of attendance at MGS by April 1 or until all ten are filled.  Contact:  Office of Admissions, 800 University Drive, Maryville, MO 64468-6001 or 1-800-633-1175.

 

ROCKHURST UNIVERSITY

5 at $500 each
Scholarships will be awarded to incoming first time freshmen who are enrolled full-time & meet Rockhurst admission requirements.  These scholarships are renewable.  Send a letter of interest & verification of attendance at MGS to Karla Boren, Director of Financial Aid, Rockhurst University, 1100 Rockhurst Road, Kansas City, MO 64110 or call 1-800-842-6776.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
Undetermined
SMSU provides an unlimited number of general fee paying (non-renewable) awards to full-time incoming freshmen with at least a 3.0 GPA that were MGS participants. It will not be awarded in combination with any other University merit scholarship except for the Regent’s or the President’s. STEPHENS COLLEGE
Undetermined
Stephens College offers Leadership Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 that are renewable annually.  All MGS participants admitted to Stephens with at least a 3.0 GPA qualify, with the amount being determined by the strength of the recipient’s overall leadership credentials.  Complete the Stephens College application for admission form.  Contact:  David Adams, Stephens College, 1200 E. TRUMAN STATE UNIVERSITY

A maximum of 15 awards will be granted at $1,000 each
Students who participated in MGS are eligible for consideration on a competitive basis for fee waivers as long as they have at least a 3.25 GPA and an ACT composite score of 26 or above.  This scholarship is potentially renewable.  For further information, please contact Admissions, 205 McClain Hall, Truman State University, Kirksville, MO 63501, 1-800-892-7792 or admissions@truman.edu.

 

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI - COLUMBIA

5 at $1,000 each
Those participants of MGS who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement & leadership potential are eligible for this non-renewable award.  Complete the Scholarship application for entering freshmen by Dec. 1 of the year prior to your attendance & mail to Scholarship Office, 11 Jesse Hall, Columbia MO 65211 or 1-800-225-6075

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI – KANSAS CITY

4 at $1,000

Students who have participated in the MGS program & who have a 23 or better composite ACT score OR who rank in the top 10% of their graduating high school class will be considered for our $1,000 scholarship.  They must apply for admission by March 1.  They must also complete the competitive freshmen scholarship application on our website at www.sfa.umkc.edu , also by March 1 prior to the year of attendance.  The scholarships will be renewable.  Students applying for the 6-year Medical program or the Provisional Pharmacy program are not eligible to apply.  Contact Debbie Beard, Assistant Director, UMKC Financial Aid and Scholarships Office at 816-235-1300 if you have questions.

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI – ROLLA

1 at $500
One student who participated in MGS is eligible to receive a $500 scholarship.  A letter or e-mail expressing an interest in being considered for this UMR sponsored scholarship must be received by February 1 of the student senior year in high school.  The letter or e-mail should include leadership qualities.  Financial need will be taken into consideration in selecting the recipient.  The recipient for this scholarship will be informed in writing by April 15.  Contact:  Robert W. WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Unlimited at $1,000 each

WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Unlimited at various amounts

As an excellent representative of leadership & character, which is required of all Westminster scholarship recipients, students who have participated in the MGS Program meet this component of eligibility for scholarship consideration.  Students must be admitted to the College before scholarship consideration will be given.  Contact:  Aimee Bristow, Director of Financial Aid, 501 Westminster Ave, Fulton MO 65251, bristoa@westminster-mo.edu , or 1-800-475-3361.

WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY

Leadership award:
1 or 2 at $2,000 (Residential) / $1,000 (Commuter)Applicants MUST have served as the Governess of Girls State.

Participant award:
5 at $1,000 (Residential) / $500 (Commuter)
Applicants MUST have served as a participant of Girls State.

A minimum ACT score of 23 or SAT of 1060 (critical reading + math) is required.  These awards are available to first-year freshmen and are not renewable.  These awards may only be combined with an Academic Excellence Award and the LEAD award.  An interview is not required to qualify for these awards.
