The American Legion Auxiliary believes that educating our youth about the basic ideals and principals will help ensure the survival of our republic.

Scholarships

Participants who successfully complete the American Legion Auxiliary Missouri Girls State program in its entirety and finish in good standing will be eligible to apply for the following scholarship opportunities:

University of Central Missouri

10 at $1500 each

The University of Central Missouri Missouri Girls State Scholarship has been developed to recognize outstanding leadership as demonstrated by those students who successfully complete the 2009 session of Missouri Girls State. The scholarship award value for the 2010-2011 academic year is $1500, to be divided evenly between the 2010 fall and 2011 spring semesters. To apply, students are encouraged to complete and submit the application at www.ucmo.edu/scholarapp by March 1, 2010. American Legion

1 at $1000 and 5 at $500

All MGS participants are eligible to apply for the $1000 Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship Fund. Missouri Girls State participants who are current members of or a descendant of a member of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of The American Legions and are unmarried, under the age of 21, and a resident of Missouri are eligible for the $500 Joseph J. Frank Scholarship. Central Methodist University

Unlimited at 1/2 tuition

These awards are available to all MGS graduates admitted to CMU. The student must meet or exceed CMU's basic academic admission standards. The student may not stack a participatory award on top of the 1/2 tuition scholarship. Fill out the admissions application and indicate that you were a Missouri Girls State participant. Columbia College

Leadership Award

This award is based on demonstration of leadership in high school and/or community activities. Priority is given to those students who participated in Missouri Girls State. The Leadership Award is renewable with participation in leadership development activities, including involvement in a minimum of two campus organizations. Crowder College

Unlimited at $600 each

Missouri Girls State citizens who rank in the top 15% of their class or score at least 25 on their ACT qualify for this award. The scholarship is renewable for three semesters if you remain a full-time student with at least a 3.0 GPA. Contact: Financial Aid Office, 601 LaClede, Neosho MO 64850 or 417-455-5678.

Drury University

Unlimited at $1000 each

An admitted student to Drury, who attended Missouri Girls State, is eligible for this renewable award if they submit an essay based on their experience at Missouri Girls State. Lindenwood University

10 at $5000 and an $1800 Work & Learn Award

Linn State Technical College

1 at $1200

Missouri Girls State participants who rank in the top 30% of their graduating class will be eligible for this award. This is a renewable award as long as a 3.0 GPA is maintained and you are a full-time student. Missouri Southern State University

10 at $800 each per academic year

Missouri Girls State participants who score a 26 or higher on the ACT will receive the MSSU Girls State Scholarship. This scholarship is renewable for a total of eight consecutive semesters if renewal criteria is met. Renewal criteria is enrollment in and completion of at least 12 credit hours per semester with a 2.5 semester GPA earned the first semester and a 3.0 semester GPA for the remaining semesters of the scholarship. This award must be used within one year after graduation, will be applied toward student tuition, and may not be combined with another academic institutional scholarship. Missouri State University

5 at $1000 each

Missouri Girls State participants who have both a solid academic record and a strong record of leadership are eligible. This is a non-renewable award and can be combined with other Missouri State awards and scholarships with the exception of the Presidential, Governors, and Multicultural Leadership Scholarship. Students must apply for admission, submit the general scholarship application, and provide verification of MGS attendance to the Office of Student Financial Aid by March 1st of their senior year. Missouri Valley College

Unlimited at $5000 each and $1860 Work Grant

These scholarships provide free room and board for four years to each recipient, who also becomes eligible for $1860 in work grants. You must have been a 2009 Girls State citizen. Contact: Director of Admissions, MVC, Marshall MO 65340 or 660-831-4157.

North Central Missouri College

2 at $1000 each

North Central Missouri College will award two scholarships to high school seniors who attended Missouri Girls State, provided they have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or graduate in the top 20% of their high school class. Northwest Missouri State University

10 at $500 each

Scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen who have attended Missouri Girls State. Selection will be based on leadership and academic merit. Applicants must be admitted to the University and complete the general scholarship application, send proof of attendance at Missouri Girls State by April 1st or until all ten slots are filled. Rockhurst University

5 at $500 each

Scholarships will be awarded to incoming first time freshmen who are enrolled full-time and meet Rockhurst admission requirements. These scholarships are renewable. Submit a letter of interest and verification of attendance at Missouri Girls State. Southeast Missouri State University

Undetermined

SEMO provides an unlimited number of general fee paying (non-renewable) awards to full-time incoming freshmen with at least a 3.0 GPA that were Missouri Girls State participants. It will not be awarded in combination with any other University merit scholarship except for the Regent's or the President's. Application deadline is Dec. 15th. Stephens College

Undetermined

Stephens College offers Leadership Scholarships ranging from $1000 to $3000 that are renewable annually. All Missouri Girls State participants admitted to Stephens with at least a 3.0 GPA qualify, with the amount being determined by the strength of the recipient's overall leadership credentials. Truman State University

Unlimited at $1000 each

Awarded to Missouri Girls State participants who are admitted to Truman as beginning freshmen. This scholarship is potentially renewable according to requirements established by Truman. University of Missouri (Columbia)

5 at $1000 each

Those participants of Missouri Girls State who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and leadership potential are eligible for this non-renewable award. Complete the Scholarship application for entering freshmen by Dec. 1 of the year prior to your attendance and mail to Scholarship Office, 11 Jesse Hall, Columbia MO 65211 or 1-800-225-6075.

University of Missouri - Kansas City

4 at $1000

Students who have participated in the Missouri Girls State program and who have a 23 or better composite ACT score OR who rank in the top 10% of their graduating high school class will be considered for our $1000 scholarship. They must apply for admission by March 1. They must also complete the competitive freshmen scholarship application on our website at www.sfa.umkc.edu, by March 1 prior to the year of attendance. The scholarships will be renewable. Students applying for the 6 year Medical program of the Provisional Pharmacy program are not eligible to apply. University of Missouri - Science & Technology

1 at $500

One student who participated in Missouri Girls State is eligible to receive a $500 scholarship. A letter or e-mail expressing an interest in being considered for this UMR sponsored scholarship must be received by February 1 of the student's senior year in high school. The letter or e-mail should include leadership qualities. Financial need will be taken into consideration in selecting the recipient. Washington University

Unlimited at $2500 each

Missouri Girls State participants who have been admitted to the University and have outstanding leadership skills are eligible. Contact: Student Financial Services, One Brookings Drive, Campus Box 10410, St. Louis MO 63130-4899.

Webster University

Unlimited at $1000 each

Renewable scholarships are available to Missouri Girls State participants who have a minimum 3.0 GPA, rank in the top 33% of their graduating class and have a high ACT score. Contact: Scholarship Coordinator, Webster University, 470 E. Lockwood, St. Louis MO 63119 or 314-968-7004.

Westminster College

Unlimited at various amounts

As an excellent representative of leadership and character, which is required of all Westminster scholarship recipients; students who have participated in the Missouri Girls State Program meet this component of eligibility for scholarship consideration. Williams Woods University

Up to 7 at various amounts

Leadership Award: 1 or 2 at $2000 (residential) or $1000 (commuter). Applicants MUST have served as the Governor of Girls State.

Participant Award: 5 at $1000 (residential) or $500 (commuter). Applicants MUST have served as a participant of Girls State.

Both awards require a minimum ACT score of 23 or SAT of 1060 (critical reading + math). These awards are available to first-year freshmen and are not renewable. These awards may only be combined with an Academic Excellence Award and the LEAD award. An interview is not required to qualify for these awards.
