COMING SOON

What’s the purpose of the program?
To build leadership and civic pride by creating and running a mock government at the city, county, and state levels. You’ll also hear from and interact with local, statewide, and national leaders in various fields that touch government.

What should I expect?
A fast-paced, high-energy week where you'll be challenged to lead, learn, and grow. It’s a full-time commitment—come ready to give it your all.

When will I get more information?
Around April 15, you’ll receive a letter and email letting you know your Program Information Packet is ready to download from our website.

Will I get a printed packet in the mail?
No, the packet is only available online.

When will I find out where I’m living?

Your residence hall assignment will be emailed to you on the day prior to check in. No need to email us if you don't receive it or can't locate it!  Any of our volunteer staff can assist you with getting the answer on the day you arrive.

When should I check in?
Check-in details will be in the Program Information Packet and posted online closer to the session. We will space out assigned registration windows based on the county you live in, but you can still arrive anytime in the registration window on Saturday, June 20th.

Can we go off-campus after check-in?
No. Once checked in, all citizens must stay on campus.

When does the program end?
You’ll leave right after the closing session on Saturday, June 27th between 10:30 am - 11:00 am. â€‹

What if I forget something?
We have a daily shopper for essentials. Food items are not included in her shopping tasks, but snacks are available for purchase on campus at our ALA MGS Shoppe.

What are the dorms like?

You’ll share a room with one to two citizens (no, they won't be from your hometown). Some dorms are suite style and you will share a bathroom with your suitemates. Others have a community bathroom located in your hall. Bring your own shower supplies, hair products, and hand soap. Toilet paper is provided.

What are the meals like?
Cafeteria-style with multiple options. All citizens need to respond to the pre-session survey in the app prior to June 1, 2025.  In the survey, you will be asked about dietary restrictions and allergies.  We will share this information with the dietary staff at Lindenwood University and reach out to you regarding any specialized plans that need to be made.

What should I wear?
Casual clothes during the day. Business casual for three evening meals (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday). Details for the dress code are included in the citizen information packet.  All citizens must wear solid black, business casual attire for the Inauguration Ceremony on Friday night.

Should I bring money?Yes. You may want cash or a card for snacks, souvenirs, or forgotten items. All citizens should bring $3 in cash for required ALA MGS taxes.

What should I leave at home?

Valuables, laptops, gaming devices, and any prohibited items (tobacco, alcohol, vapes, etc.).

Can I bring campaign materials?
No. Everything you need for campaigning will be provided at Girls State.

Can I use my cell phone?
Yes, but only during approved times, as outlined in the Code of Conduct.

Is there an orientation?

Yes. Orientation details will be shared in the April 15 mailing. There will be in-person and online options. All citizens must attend one of the orientation options or you forfeit your opportunity to attend ALA Missouri Girls State.

Can I earn college credit?
More information about college credit through Lindenwood will be available in the April 15 mailing.

Can I drive myself?

Due to the busy schedule and events occurring throughout the week, it is not recommended for you to drive yourself. If you do, you’ll need to turn in your car keys upon arrival. Citizens traveling 90+ miles are eligible for free charter bus transportation and should respond with their transportation requests in the app. All citizens will be emailed their bus transportation arrangements by June 15th.  Please note that we calculate ridership for the whole program and you will be assigned on busses that meet the needs of our program calculations.
