Tonight, the delegates of Missouri Girls State got to experience one of the most popular experiences of the week: the Talent Show. The Talent Show allows delegates to unwind and share all of their showstopping talents with their peers. For one night, delegates can forget about elections or interviews and come together for an exciting evening of performance. Many ladies were passionate about their talent, and couldn’t wait to share it with the delegation.
Hope Alexis of Pershing City said, “I originally wrote my speech Too Young for my town’s local pageant: Miss Higginsville Country Fair. It’s about how all of our lives, we have been told we are too young to do anything to change the world we live in today. We are too often underestimated because we are too young, and that is simply untrue. I’m excited to share my speech with the delegates of Girls State to inspire them to be the change we want to see in the world.”
Nora Pryer of Clark City, who performed a French horn solo, said “I wanted to enter the talent show because my goal when coming to MGS was to get as involved as possible; so I did it! I look forward to seeing each girls’ hobbies outside of their work with respect to government and politics'.” Every single girl on stage was a star, whether they were performing slam poetry or twirling a baton.
During the show, delegates couldn’t have been more supportive of the performers. Girls were on their feet, clapping with the beat and waving their phone flashlights about. An audience favorite was when the counselors of Girls State performed an unofficial Girls State song. “I thought it was the best part of Girls State, and I thought it was the most exciting and exhilarating moment of my summer so far,” said Emilie Reynolds of Pershing City. The Talent Show perfectly exemplified the “magic” of Girls State. Tonight, there were no Federalists or Nationalists; rather, there was one united Girls State.
